FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BGMC/NCTM Board of Directors to Publicly Release Letter to Shea’s Buffalo Regarding Planned Production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus and Nickel City Treble Makers Board of Directors announced that it will publicly release its previously submitted letter to leadership at Shea’s Buffalo regarding the planned production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, has publicly expressed views that are harmful to the transgender community and has used her financial resources to support organizations and efforts that oppose transgender rights.Supporting such a production goes against the organization’s core values.
The Board has not received a response to its correspondence and, following careful consideration, has determined that public release of the letter is the appropriate next step. The letter will be shared through BGMC/NCTM’s official social media platforms, and notice will be provided to local media outlets. “The Board believes it is important to communicate clearly and publicly about matters that affect our organization, our members, and the communities we serve,” said Rachel Fangsrud, Vice President of the Board of Directors. “In taking this step, we reaffirm our commitment to advocacy, inclusion, and support for the transgender community.”
In connection with this action, the Board has also approved donating a portion of the proceeds from the organization’s Shea’s season ticket raffle to the Pride Center of WNY. The donation will be specifically designated to support local programming and services benefiting the transgender community.
